All ages – all the BEST things to do.

Mid Missouri Soapbox Derby Race in Downtown CoMo

Get ready for one of Columbia’s most exciting summer traditions as local kids take to the streets for the annual Soapbox Derby Race in downtown Columbia on June 14th from 8AM – 5PM.

This free community event features gravity-powered race cars driven by young racers ages 7 to 19. Competitors will race down the course from 7th Street and Broadway to Providence Road, putting their skills and courage to the test as they navigate the downhill route.

Whether you’re cheering from the sidelines or interested in racing yourself, the Soapbox Derby offers a fun opportunity for families to experience a unique event right in the heart of downtown.

What to Expect

  • Soapbox derby races featuring local youth
  • Drivers ages 7–19
  • Free admission for spectators
  • Downtown Columbia race course
  • Family-friendly atmosphere
  • Opportunities for new racers to get involved

One of the best parts? Families interested in participating don’t need to provide a race car. Organizers have the cars available and simply need young drivers ready to race.

Interested in Racing?

If your child has ever wanted to experience the thrill of soapbox racing, now is a great time to get involved. The program provides the cars—you provide the driver.
