Free Teen Driving Safety Program Helps Columbia Families Prepare for the Road

Have a teenager who’s learning to drive or getting ready to start? The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a free First Impact teen driver safety program on Wednesday, October 21, to help families prepare for this important milestone.

The 90-minute program focuses on the challenges and risks young drivers face, especially during their first few months of independent driving. Parents, grandparents, and guardians will learn about Missouri’s Graduated Driver License law and get practical tips for coaching, monitoring, and supporting their teens behind the wheel.

Teen drivers face a higher risk of crashes than more experienced drivers, making early education and parental involvement especially important. First Impact aims to help families build safer driving habits and better understand how to reduce risks on the road.

Teens ages 14–19 and their families are especially encouraged to attend. The program is completely free, but advance registration is required.
