Allen Train Robbery Reenactment at Rothwell Park Mini Train

Experience a piece of Mid-Missouri history during the Allen Train Robbery Reenactment at the Rothwell Park Mini Train in Moberly. This family-friendly event recreates an actual incident that took place in August 1861 in Allen, Missouri, an area that is now part of Moberly.

The original event involved coin and currency being transferred from a Fayette bank to St. Louis for safekeeping. While the money was being unloaded from a buckboard onto a North Missouri Railroad train in Allen, Confederate Partisans took the shipment without a shot being fired. According to stories from the era, the money was later returned to the Fayette bank.

During the miniature train ride, actors portraying Confederate Partisans will stop the train, search it and discover the “gold.” Organizers explain the reenactment to passengers before departure, and the actors are trained to make the experience appropriate for young children.
