Prison Break 2026 at Missouri State Penitentiary

Ready for a challenge? The Prison Break Obstacle Run returns to the historic Missouri State Penitentiary, giving participants the chance to tackle a rugged course packed with mud, climbing, crawling, and other physical obstacles.

Hosted by Jefferson City Athletic Events, JC Parks, and Visit Jefferson City, this isn’t your average 5K. The course is designed to test endurance, strength, and determination as runners make their own “escape” from one of Missouri’s most famous landmarks.

Date: Saturday, August 22, 2026
Location: Missouri State Penitentiary, Jefferson City, MO
On-Site Registration: Begins at 6:45 AM
Online Registration: Opens June 1
Age Requirement: 14 years and older
Youth Policy: Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

What to Expect

Participants will complete a 3+ mile obstacle course featuring challenges such as:

Wall climbs
Mud pits
Army crawls
Dirt mounds
Slip-and-slide obstacles
Additional endurance and strength challenges

The course is designed to push runners beyond their comfort zones while providing a fun and memorable experience.

What to Bring

Because many obstacles involve water and mud, organizers recommend:

Wearing clothing and shoes you don’t mind getting dirty.
Leaving valuables and anything you don’t want to get wet at home or with someone not participating.
Planning ahead, as personal belongings cannot be stored with event staff during the race.

Online registration will open June 1. On-site registration will begin at 6:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 22.
