An evening of immersive storytelling, live sound performance and original audio drama is coming back to Columbia as the Pringle Midwest Audio Theatre Revival returns on Saturday, June 27, 2026.
Hosted by the National Audio Theatre Festivals, the event will take place at Macklanburg Playhouse at Stephens College and will feature a mix of live performances, experimental sound design, music and award presentations celebrating the art of audio storytelling.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with performances beginning at 7 p.m.
The evening’s lineup includes WELLSPRING, a live immersive sound experience produced by Dwight Frizzell that blends recorded vocals from Ozark artist Marideth Sisco with live performances by Tony Brewer, Steve D’Onofrio, Greg Mackender and others.
Attendees will also experience FRIEND OF E.R., a historical radio drama written by LeeAnne Lowry inspired by the relationship between Eleanor Roosevelt and journalist Lorena Hickok. The production combines live actors, immersive sound effects and music direction by Julia Thro to recreate the feeling of classic radio theatre.
Another featured production is ICK AND THE CHARM, written by Steve D’Onofrio and abridged by Butch D’Ambrosio, featuring special guest Barbara Rosenblat, known for her audiobook narration work and appearances in Orange Is the New Black.
The evening will also include the 2026 Corwin Presentation honoring Susan Albert Loewenberg for her contributions to audio theatre.
The event is supported in part by the Missouri Arts Council and the Leo Gilbert Wetherill Foundation.
The Pringle Midwest Audio Theatre Revival will take place at Macklanburg Playhouse at Stephens College, located at 100 Willis Avenue in Columbia. Tickets and additional information are available through the National Audio Theatre Festivals website.
