Intro to Foil Fencing Classes

Kids and adults looking for a different way to stay active can learn the basics of foil fencing through an upcoming class offered at Hillcrest Community Center in Columbia.

The Intro to Foil Fencing class combines exercise with an introduction to the sport, making it a fun option for beginners who have never picked up a fencing foil before.

Learn the Basics of Fencing

Participants will learn a brief history of fencing along with the fundamental skills needed to get started. Classes will cover hand and body positions, lunges, attacks, parries and basic fencing strategy.

The program is open to participants ages 10 through adult, and parents and children can even register and take the class together.

Fencing jackets and equipment are provided for use during class, so beginners do not need to purchase their own gear before participating. The class is taught by John Konzal.

Class Details

Two sessions are available:

  • September 17-October 22, 2026
  • October 29-December 10, 2026, with no class November 26

Classes meet Thursdays from 4:30-6 p.m. at Hillcrest Community Center, Room D at Waters-Moss.
