Help Restore Native Habitat at Kiwanis Park

Volunteers are invited to lend a hand at Kiwanis Park on Wednesday, June 10, during the Missouri Conservation Corps’ final honeysuckle removal event of the season.

The community workday will run from 5 to 7 p.m. and focus on removing invasive honeysuckle and burning bush from the south side of the park. The effort is part of an ongoing habitat restoration project aimed at improving native plant communities and creating healthier ecosystems for local wildlife.

Participants should meet at the Odor Shelter on the west side of Kiwanis Park, located at 926 College Park Drive. No prior experience is necessary, as Missouri Conservation Corps staff will provide all tools, training, gloves and bug spray needed for the project.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle and dress appropriately for outdoor work and changing weather conditions.

This event marks the last opportunity this season to join the restoration effort before summer arrives, making it a great chance to give back to one of Columbia’s community parks while helping protect native habitats.

Registration is requested through the Missouri Conservation Corps website.
