Free Summer Reading Programs for Kids in Columbia, MO

Summer reading season is almost here, and several popular businesses are offering free rewards to help keep kids motivated to read πŸ“šπŸ•

Families can sign up for a variety of national summer reading programs that include free pizza, books, meals, and more, all just to track reading goals over the summer break.

Some of the programs returning for 2026 include:

πŸ• Pizza Hut BOOK IT! β€” Kids in Pre-K through 6th grade can track reading goals and earn free personal pan pizzas through the BOOK IT! app.

πŸ“– Barnes & Noble Summer Reading β€” Students in grades 1–6 can read eight books, complete a reading journal, and redeem it for a free book between July 1 and Aug. 31.

🐼 Panda Express Read With Me β€” Children who read five books can earn a free kids meal coupon through the restaurant’s reading program.

πŸŽ‚ Nothing Bundt Cakes Reading Program β€” Some locations reward kids with a free bundtlet after reaching reading minute goals.

πŸ“š Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library β€” Eligible children from birth to age 5 can receive free books mailed directly to their homes each month.

πŸ’» Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge β€” Students can log reading minutes online to unlock digital rewards and badges.

Many of the programs are free to join and begin rolling out in May and June, making them a simple way to encourage reading during summer break while earning a few fun extras along the way.
