Kold Read Karaoke is back for a special APRIL FOOLS edition!
Think karaoke night... but instead of belting out showtune classics or the power ballads perfected in the shower, performers are diving headfirst into monologues they've never seen before.
Join us for Kold Read Karaoke, a one-night-only theatrical experiment where brave souls take the stage and perform cold readings of monologues pulled at random. The twist? They have no idea what they're getting until they're under the spotlight.
Monologues in our available library may be pulled from plays, movies, or television shows—comedy, drama, and everything in between.
Just like karaoke, performers sign up upon arrival. When your name is called, you’ll be handed a script and given the stage.
Come for the surprises, stay for the theatrics, and help us raise funds for Talking Horse Productions! Whether you’re an actor, a thrill-seeker, or just in it for the laughs, Kold Read Karaoke promises a night of spontaneous entertainment and unforgettable moments.
No rehearsals. No prep. Just guts, glory, and a script in hand.
Tickets to attend are $15. Tickets to perform are $20.
In this counterculture classic, bikers Wyatt (Peter Fonda) and Billy (Dennis Hopper) set off on a cross-country journey from Los Angeles to New Orleans after scoring big in a drug deal, encountering bigotry and progressiveness in equal measure. A major cultural phenomenon due to its rock soundtrack, naturalistic cinematography, and its colorful editing, Easy Rider still leaves audiences wondering what it means to live peacefully in America nearly 50 years on.
This screening will be introduced by Unbound Book Festival panel moderator Caroline Dohack who will share how Easy Rider connects with her panel titled “Woo Woo Cthulhu: Cults, the Occult and the New Age.” Unbound leadership will also share a preview of other events not-to-be missed.
Filmed over 21 years, Sabbath Queen follows Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie’s epic journey as the dynastic heir of 38 generations of Orthodox rabbis. Sabbath Queen joins Amichai on a lifelong quest to creatively and radically reinvent religion and ritual, challenge patriarchy and supremacy, champion interfaith love, and stand up for peace, ceasefire, and an end to the Occupation in Israel/Palestine.
This screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Sandi DuBowski and Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie, moderated by David Wilson, co-founder of Ragtag Film Society.

Just as repairmen Val (Kevin Bacon) and Earl (Fred Ward) are ready to leave behind their boring lives in Perfection, Nevada, a series of mysterious deaths occurs and a concerned seismologist (Finn Carter) arrives in town to research unnatural movement below the ground. It’s up to this group and the townspeople to come together to protect themselves from giant subterranean worms hungry for flesh. Inspired by the monster films of the 1950s, Tremors brought these motifs into the 90s, where it attracted a cult following on the home video market after its initial box office failure.
This screening is free for members and will be followed by a panel discussion with MU researchers.

As Sonny explores what she wants outside of their relationship, Chester starts sleeping with sex workers, leading them both to reconsider the meaning of intimacy, romantic love, and sex. A live-action adaptation of acclaimed alternative-cartoonist Chester Brown’s best selling eponymous graphic novel, Paying for It is a moving work of cinematic autofiction, directed and co-written by Brown’s real-life ex and longtime best friend Sook-Yin Lee. After getting discovered by a talent agent, Kermit the Frog sets out on a cross-country adventure to Hollywood! Along the way, he meets new friends who also want to enter show business, but, when a devious frog legs merchant goes after Kermit, he must rely on these new friendships to help him evade capture. Created after the success of the 1976 variety sketch comedy The Muppet Show, this musical road comedy marked the theatrical debut of Jim Henson’s Muppet characters, providing the origin story of iconic characters like Kermit, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, and Miss Piggy.
We're turning 7 and we're already planning the after-party!

This stoner cult classic from writer and director Richard Linklater follows a group of teenagers and their adventures on the last day of school in 1976. Bongs rip, rock n’ roll plays, and teens wait for something…. anything… exciting to happen. Featuring a stellar soundtrack, quippy dialogue, and an ensemble cast of up and coming actors—Ben Affleck, Matthew McConaughey, Parker Posey and Milla Jovovich–Dazed and Confused remains one of the most acclaimed films about teenagers and the fleeting nature of memory.
This screening is targeted for those 18 and up and is not intended for children
In the early 2000s, Dateline NBC’s To Catch a Predator claimed to catch child predators by luring them to a film set before interviewing and arresting them on camera. This public humiliation proved to be a hit and spawned an industry of copycat vigilantes, inspired by host Chris Hansen’s self-appointed role as moral crusader. Predators forensically peels back the layers of the show’s legacy, speaking with those behind the scenes of the original and the clickbait spinoffs.
This screening will be followed by a Q&A with director David Osit, moderated by Robert Greene, Filmmaker-in-Chief at the Jonathan B. Murray Center for Documentary Journalism.
Content warning: This film contains discussions of child sexual abuse and suicide.
Please note that FREE tickets for the public will be available at the Ragtag Box Office starting Monday, April 20 at 12PM. No more than two free tickets will be given to one person.

In Texas, the Krause List targets 850 books focused on race and LGBTQia+ stories — triggering sweeping book bans across the U.S. at an unprecedented rate. As tensions escalate, librarians connect the dots from heated school and library board meetings nationwide to lay bare the underpinnings of extremism fueling the censorship efforts. Despite facing harassment, threats and laws aimed at criminalizing their work, the librarians’ rallying cry for freedom to read is a chilling cautionary tale.
Enjoy this free screening of "The Librarians," a documentary film by Kim A. Snyder and presented in partnership with PBS station KMOS. (Not rated, 92 minutes.)
A panel discussion will follow the film.

It's that time of the year again! The Ponies are adding to their stable and looking for the best improv performers in the mid-Missouri area to join the team.
The Ponies specialize in short-form improv comedy and play and perform games made famous by shows like, "Whose Line is it Anyway." Our team also creates and workshops our own games and show concepts to create original content.
What to expect: The audition begins at 10am at Talking Horse Productions and lasts about an hour. During that time, those auditioning will be taken through some of our favorite improv activities. Our team will be looking for how well auditioners work with one another, make character choices, think on their feet, and adapt to direction.
Auditions are limited to the first 10 that sign-up. If we receive more audition forms after that we will conduct a second audition that day at 11am. An audition callback will also occur the following week, Sunday, May 3, during our regular practice time of 6pm.
**It is highly recommended that those auditioning attend a Ponies show prior to the audition.**
What you get: The Ponies has been performing for audiences for 7 years. Members on the team will practice weekly on Sundays from 6-7:30pm and have regular performance opportunities, including two per month at Talking Horse Productions, but also other mid-MO theatres. Being a part of the team provides training, development, and creative opportunities.
The 82nd Annual Collections Fashion Show will be held at Stephens College on Saturday, April 25th in Windsor Auditorium.
Come join us for the 82nd annual student designer fashion show, The Collections. Show times are April 25th at 2:00pm, 4:30pm, and 7:00pm in the Windsor Auditorium on the Stephens College Campus. The Collections is a culmination of the students' creative work over the course of the academic year.
Year after year, Stephens College fashion students set their sights on what they believe to be fashion’s new vision. By layering past and present and exploring the connections between them, we were led to this year’s theme - Interwoven. Interwoven envisions fashion as a reflection of our shared experiences, where garments and people are shaped through connection. Every garment layers moments, movements, and memories, carrying the past forward. We all carry a heritage; collecting and expanding stories, experiences, and connections as we interweave with the people, places, and communities we encounter. These convergences create the fabric of a moment in time. Each garment, like each person, is woven and shaped to layer our histories throughout its journey, becoming something unified, textured, and deeply human. Thus, clothing becomes a physical record of our shared humanity, and a visible expression of our collective narrative.
Premier ticket holders enjoy premium seating at the show, ensuring an unparalleled viewing experience. Additionally, their experience is further enhanced with a Swag Bag filled with locally sourced products.

The discovery of the structure of DNA revealed how genetic information is stored and replicated – the secret of life. This discovery was largely based on the work of British scientist Rosalind Franklin, who did not get proper credit. This play is her story.
She was brought to King’s College based on her well-known experimental expertise. However, women scientists were not well-received in Britain at the time, contributing to great drama in the lab. It was all made more dramatic due to the personalities of Franklin and her colleague James Watson. One of her x-ray photographs, photograph 51, was particularly revealing of the double helix. Watson and Francis Crick got hold of it without her knowledge.
This well-known scandal has been the subject of books and debate for 70 years. Now it has been dramatized in a gripping play by Anna Ziegler. Through the interactions between the difficult Rosalind and the ambitious Watson, the play explores the foundation of modern genetics, gender conflicts in science, and the human dynamics of bright people trying to work together. It's presented as a drama and adventure that brings the complex science to life through the personalities and rivalries of the scientists.
Unemployed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and with $40,000 of student debt, 26 year-old filmmaker Taku Aoyagi decides to try his luck at being an Uber Eats rider in the now, empty streets of Tokyo. This screening will be preceded by a presentation from Brian Ott, Assistant Teaching Professor of Sociology at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
