Missouri families can save on back-to-school shopping during the 2026 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, when qualifying purchases are exempt from state and local sales tax for one weekend each August.
2026 Dates
Begins: Friday, August 7, 2026, at 12:01 a.m.
Ends: Sunday, August 9, 2026, at midnight
What Qualifies?
During the tax holiday, these items qualify when they meet the price limits established by Missouri law:
- Clothing, shoes, and diapers priced at $100 or less per item
- School supplies costing $50 or less per purchase
- Computer software priced at $350 or less
- Personal computers costing $1,500 or less
- Computer accessories, such as keyboards, mice, and external disk drives, priced at $1,500 or less
- Graphing calculators costing $150 or less
Items That Don’t Qualify
Not everything used for school is included in the tax holiday. Examples of items that are not exempt include:
- Radios
- Headphones
- CD players
- Sporting equipment
- Telephones
- Copiers and general office supplies
- Furniture
The following accessories are also excluded from the clothing exemption:
- Watches and watchbands
- Jewelry
- Handbags
- Handkerchiefs
- Umbrellas
- Scarves
- Ties
- Headbands
- Belt buckles
