Kick off First Friday with an evening of poetry, community, and creative energy in the heart of Columbia.
This debut First Friday event, hosted in the Walnut Street parking lot in the North Village Arts District, sets the tone with a celebration of words for National Poetry Month. Taking place outdoors at 1023 E. Walnut St., it’s a laid-back, come-and-go gathering designed to bring people together through storytelling and shared creativity.
The night will feature readings from local poets on a unique garage-door stage, creating an intimate and welcoming space to listen, reflect, and connect. After the featured readings, the mic opens up—giving anyone the chance to step up, share their work, or simply be part of the moment. A sign-up sheet will be available at the event.
This first event will also include a meaningful tribute to Kenny Greene, remembered as the unofficial mayor of the North Village Arts District. Organizers plan to make this tribute an annual tradition, honoring his impact on the local arts community.
